Air Fryer Popcorn

Popcorn in the air fryer is a fun snack when you line the basket with foil so kernels do not fall through the grate. Use a small batch, shake once, and stop when popping slows. Salt right away while it is hot.

Air Fryer Popcorn

Foil, not paper

Kernels bounce. Line the basket floor and walls with foil, pressed into the shape of the basket. Paper liners are not ideal here.

Small batch

About 1/4 cup kernels max so air can move and kernels are not stacked.

Crowding. 1/4 cup kernels per batch. More than that and popping is uneven.
Basket liner (optional). Use foil for popcorn, not paper basket liners. Kernels fly and need a sealed floor. Do not cover the entire appliance, only the basket insert.

Step-by-step instructions

Follow each step in order. Photos show what to look for so the basket finish matches the plate.

Set up

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (204°C). Line the basket and inner walls with aluminum foil so kernels cannot fall through the grate.

  2. Toss kernels with oil in the foil-lined basket. Spread in a single layer so kernels are not touching.

Pop

  1. Air fry 5 minutes. Pause when popping slows, remove popped corn, and return any unpopped kernels for 2-3 minutes more if needed.

  2. Wait a few seconds before opening fully. Salt immediately and add butter if you like.
